Minus a mental blip that marred today’s run, I officially finished week 5 of Couch to 5K. On the docket today? Running for twenty minutes.
Full disclosure: at the 15 minute mark (10 minutes into the run) I had a panic moment that was at least 90% mental and slammed the STOP button. It took me about 30 seconds to get myself back in order and get the treadmill back up to speed, and then I finished the final 10 minutes of running and 5 minute cool down.
While it wasn’t perfect, I’m considering it a victory. I did run for 20 minutes, and I know that next week’s schedule will allow me to back off the running a tiny bit during the week before trying a similar run interval next weekend.
And so… I FINISHED WEEK 5! I did it. I may have gotten a little weepy as I stopped the treadmill… just maybe. I finished with a 45 minute strength training routine, since weekend days at the gym mean I have a lot more time to spend there. I’m definitely going to be sore, but I feel great.
Mommy-daughter day
Evi and I had an INCREDIBLE time on our mommy-daughter day. We went to Whole Foods and bought healthy snacks; we went dress shopping; we spent an hour at the play place; we walked and walked and walked. We ate lunch together (she chose truffle mac & cheese), shared strawberry cheesecake fudge, and laughed our faces off. I walked fast while she napped, then we drove to the library, where she picked out a crazy selection of books and impressed the librarians.
In the end, we went home with a book about the circulatory system, one about the five senses, one about the life cycle of a pumpkin, one about how vision and mirrors work, and the Madeline halloween movie. It was super fun.
We had NO fighting, no arguing, no stress. It was the best day ever!

I say it definitely counts! I know how much you have battled with this program in the past but now you are crushing it! I’ve always got the impression it was mental for you because my other friend had a similar issue with it. When she came to visit she told me she had repeated weeks 1-4 like 3 or 4 times but couldn’t get past the 20 mins. There was physically no way she could be run/walking that often and not be able to put it all together for 20 mins. So we ditched the plan and I signed her up for a 4k and she ran not only the dreaded 20 minutes but 24 minutes! I think the scariness of going farther than you ever have gone before trips people up (felt that way training for the marathon where every long run was farther than I had ever ran) it takes confidence and will power to get past that but also realizing that there will be runs that suck too and occasionally you may need to chill and walk a few minutes or even throw in the towel sometimes. But getting your shoes back on the next day and pushing yourself to new limits is a great feeling. Sorry for the long ramble! I’m really proud of you!
