My graduate course schedules were released today… and I’m now scrambling to make a usable schedule that incorporates my school work, my workload, my health and fitness, and my personal life.
Oddly, since I keep nearly everything online somehow, a master schedule like this works best for me in written form. I like printing everything out with a bullet list for each day in order of priority, with big things like exams or research papers highlighted and anticipated by notations in earlier days/weeks. I like the flexibility of being able to write in changes, and I love the feeling of crossing things off of the list or (even better) getting rid of a page entirely. I’ve used this system before and it seems to help keep me organized as long as I do a good job of giving myself warnings about upcoming assignments and make a point of looking ahead every few days.
I’m really nervous about this semester for several reasons. First of all, I’ll be taking nine credits, which is the most I’ve taken for graduate work and which my advisor tells me is quite a lot. Secondly, I’m awaiting news about a scholarship application that might help me finish my degree. Since this semester is the last one covered by my current funding, I’m pretty desperate to find something else to cover the three classes I have left to finish after this semester. To have to quit with only three classes left would be… pathetic.
So keep your fingers crossed for me, okay? Not only do I need that new funding to come through, but I also need to do well this semester so that I’ll be an attractive candidate for further funding.
