Anticipation & disappointment

books

source: treehugger.com

All summer I’ve been keeping quiet about a potentially exciting development.  I sent manuscripts out to a ton of agents and got a ton of rejections.  I didn’t really let it get to me, since everyone gets tons of rejections.  And then I got a request to send a small portion of my book to an agent.  A few weeks later, they requested a larger portion, and then my whol manuscript.  I was excited since this meant progress.  Clearly they saw something worthwhile.

I spent the summer waiting for a response from them, and it came today.  A rejection.  They’re too busy, they have to be selective, I’m not what they’re looking for.

As hard as I tried not to let myself get excited about it, I did.  In the back of my mind I imagined the email arriving, telling me they’d be my literary agent.  So I’m bummed today.  Fortunately, we’ve got a busy weekend including time with family and a wine tasting, so I’m hoping it keeps my mind off of the funk.

  2. I read this entry and was sad but also…OH MY GOD. I’m so proud of you! Look how far on the path you made it! Yes…you got that final rejection from that one interested party…but STILL. I am truly so proud that you did so much towards your dream. It shows how much you CAN do. And if you can come that close? You can DO IT, for REAL.

I always dream about writing a book, but I’ve never even sat down to do it. Much less do as much as you did and even get ANY interest AT ALL. You are amazing. Truly.
